Chiye Mori Oshima is recognized as a designer of
considerable talent and individuality. She had no
formal training in design however, her art was
self-taught.

Chiye was first involved in arts and crafts in the U.S.
when she was young. But when she moved to the
Philippines, she was mostly known as a jewelry
designer. She also excelled in pottery design, ceramics
as well as batik dyeing on wood and brass etching.
Chiye also helped in delivering study grants from
non- government organizations from Japan. In the words
of national artist, Arturo Luz “Chiye was perpetually in
collaboration with other artists in several fields of
design”.
